Editorial Review:
Book Description: Royce's Powerboating Illustrated, as promised in its title, providing information from "the best of all powerboating worlds." Topics include planning concepts and problems, boat trailers, propellers, corrosion, and artificial respiration. Illustrations and maps enhance the instruction of every passage. A glossary and index allows finding your area of interest very simply. This book is issued in conjunction with Royce's Sailing Illustrated, Volume 1 and Royce's Sailing Illustrated, Volume 2.

This is the 1994 6th edition with the first edition being 1960. I find the history of how things got to where they are today very enlightening and helpful. The book has the feel of an old and possibably outdated book, but that isn't true. You still tie a knot the same way today as you did on HMS Bounty.
This book covers trailer boating from A to Z including how it all happened. If you are looking for a manual of how to operate your new boat, I suggest the manafacturer. If you want a wealth of general knowledge I suggest this book.

This book is chock full of information and tips on matters relating to boating safety. It covers everything from how rope works to 2 cycle and 4 cycle engine operation to weather to electricity, and contains numerous anecdotes which can keep you from making the same mistakes as others. The book is also filled with Sergio Aragones-style illustrations in the margins. The author evidently spent his whole life creating it. This book is a casual, easy read, and belongs in the head or in the travel kit. An amazing book even if you, like me, are hardly a boater at all.

While entertaining, this is not a usefull book for leaning powerboating skills. It has some valuable information, but the contents are quite random and disorganized. Covers everything from basic concepts to maintenance and simple repairs. It is impossible to search for a specific topic. Much of the information is outdated or doesn't apply to modern boats. The illustrations are entertaining.
