This small book has the best coverage of rig and Sail tuning I have ever seen. It's excellent for advanced sailors as well as for beginners.

This is one impressively written book. It is concise, yet very illustrative and well-organized. I just started sailing a few months ago and have been reading several books. This was the first book that focused on sail trimming and rigging that really presented the theory and application in a reliably logical manner. I do think that one needs to have quite a number of hours of sailing behind them to truly understand this book as it presents some advanced trimming concepts (I would not have understood ... I've been sailing for years and just got by knowing the basics. I decided it was time to get better at tuning the sails so I got this book. It's way too advanced for me. If you could buy only one book on sailing, have moderate experience and enough common sense not to do things that will obviously damage the hull or hurt the crew, this would probably be it.
It is not perfect, in the sense that there is no engineering math, but it's so good that, having lost my copy, I'm buying a replacement now.
