Editorial Review:
Product Description: This leading book in the field focuses on what materials specifications and design are most effective based on function and actual load-carrying capacity. Written in an accessible style, it emphasizes the basics, such as design, equilibrium, material behavior and geometry of deformation in simple structures or machines. Readers will also find a thorough treatment of stress, strain, and the stress-strain relationships. These topics are covered before the customary treatments of axial loading, torsion, flexure, and buckling.

The book is nicely arranged for the first time you read through it, but good luck finding what you are looking for later on. Since the questions are randomly throughout the book, makes finding sections next to impossible.

This book does teach you pretty much everything you would need to know. It is not however a good read. It is one of the blandest books I have ever read, but I will not hold that against it since it is after all a textbook. The only reason I purchased this book, is that class homework is from it. Caution: This book is meant for use in ASIA ONLY. It does not say anywhere in the post that this book is meant for ASIA ONLY. The problem is that this book is entirely different than the one you will need if you need this book for a class in the US.
It does seem to have more graphics than the American Version...I haven't really looked at either yet, to be able to compare them.

This book was written for seasoned professionals. I am a engineering student, and I depend on this book to help me understand mechanics of materials, but it simply doesn't do this. The authors of the book assume that all readers already know the material. It is extremely frustrating to read this book. The example problems are ambigous. The reading simply does not prepare the reader for the problems at the end of each chapter. The only reason why I give this book two stars is because they ... Read More
