Editorial Review:

Product Description:
Uncover the secrets to sailing fast whilst remaining in control.

Mainsail trimming is not only a physically and mentally demanding role on a boat; it is also one of the most crucial. You need a deep and subtle appreciation of sail shapes and the controls used to achieve them. Most significantly, the role requires an obsession with acquiring and retaining speed.

This book is here to help and it has been written in a groundbreaking way. Every effort has been made to simplify the subject and explain everything that you need to know without blinding you with science. Sailing terminology has been reined-in as much as possible and only information relating to mainsail trimming has been included.

High quality photographs and illustrations are used throughout to simplify this complex subject. This is achieved by showing the sail shapes needed to make the boat go fast and stay under control. Only one sailing role is dealt with to further simplify the subject and make sailing more accessible to the newcomer.

Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Good for the basics
This covers all the basics for Main Sail trim, including sail controls, Basis shape, twist etc, but never breaks out into anything advanced.

I was looking for something to take my 5+ years for main trim experience to the next level, but this book is not it. there is not much on interaction with the Jib, and the slot , and nothing on rig tuning and it's effect on the mail ( like lower shroud tension and leeward mast sag..)

This is good if you have a bit of experience and ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Perfect for beginers and seasoned sailors
The ideal book to fully understand rigging and sail trim. Would be my first choice of recommendation to anyone who wants to fully understand these difficult systems. Pictures and text are excellent.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Mainsail Trimming: An Illustrated Guide
This is a truly great book. I read the book and went out to try the techniques. They make a phenomenal difference!!
Mainsail Trimming: An Illustrated Guide (Wiley Nautical)

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - simply the best
If there shoult be a "sail trim for dummies" this is it ; but with two very strong components: 1 - simplicity ;2 - very technical at the same time. Now I understand why others were sailing faster than me...

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - great guide!
wednesday nights will never be the same! this book really puts all the pieces of mainsail trim together, without the fluff and theory.
