If you're brand new to boats and the only thing you know about them is that they're suppose to float, then you're gonna need a book like this one to help give you a good foundation on the systems, parts, and many little things that a good boater should know. I found the pics, diagrams, and general information quite helpful.

It's hard to find disinterested reviews of boats. The authors seem to find the good points [and almost any boat has some] to write about, leaving you to figure out what the bad points are by exclusion.
