Product Description: A new classic from one of the world's most respected sailing authors
More than 35 years ago, Hal Roth quit his job as a journalist and went sailing. Since then, he's logged more than 200,000 sea miles. Along the way, Roth also has authored eight voyaging classics, including the 1978 bestseller After 50,000 Miles.
Taking that book as its starting point, this handsome new volume incorporates the new technologies and discoveries of the last quarter century along with another 150,000 miles of experience.
A compendium of mature, time-tested sea wisdom from one of the world's most respected sailing writers, How to Sail Around the World will tell the reader: - How to choose and equip a sailboat for long-distance cruising, with an emphasis on simplicity and a modest budget
- How to plan and conduct a voyage anywhere in the world
- How to master the arts of navigation, anchoring, and daily life aboard in exotic places
- How to cope with storms at sea--the most complete and authoritative treatise on this critical topic ever published

I read through it more-a-less in one night and found it to be really dry. Just not really interesting to read. It did have some usfull information, but even that seemed somewhat out dated and fairly relative.

I stayed up late to finish this book, and regret the publisher has not seen fit to offer Amazon readers a "Look Inside the Book."
I am adding this book to my list of great sailing manuals, handbooks, and other guides, with the observation that this book is in no way a substitute for those more detail oriented step by step books BUT this book is also unique. It is PACKED with real-world experience and clever sense--much beyond common sense--that is literally priceless. Put clearly, ... Read More

Having read many books on offshore sailing, and being a editor/reviewer for a number of journals and books, I have to say that this is my favorite book on the subject of world cruising. Roth writes extremely well and despite his wealth of knowledge always sounds laid back and practical. The subjects covered range widely but are all relevant and useful. I hope to meet him one day when traveling the far places of the world!

Well I just finished to read this book. It's excellent in all aspects: the content, the organization, the author point of view. If you want or just dream about one day sail from a place to other you need to read it first. Great ideas are presented at simple ways and preserving the sailing spirit as it must be: simple and pleasure.

I'm halfway through this book so far. It is a great read and makes sailing education fun and entertaining. Hal does a tremendous job at explaining what characteristics make a good sailboat and what equipment you need aboard. Definitely a must read if you plan on sailing anywhere aside from a small lake.
